Monero Sponsorship of the movie Crypto, a feature-film about[...]

Crypto Movie Header

Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself to the Monero Community.

My name is Sky Conway and I am an early Cryptocurrency adopter, supporter and filmmaker who was fortunate enough to be mentored by Gene Roddenberry (the creator of Star Trek).

This pivotal moment in my life truly inspired me deeply and kicked off my career as a filmmaker.

Since this time I have been a part of several crowdfunded Sci-Fi TV shows and movies on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, including Star Trek: Renegades and Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.

We have over $1.3 million in successful funding raised. Our community has 150,000 active fans on Facebook and over 4 million views of Star Trek Renegades

As part of my early endeavors with cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology, I hosted an annual event called Libertopia, which focused on the freedoms people desire and a voluntaryist mindset.

These events gathered some of the earliest Bitcoin supporters, educators and evangelists.

I knew Cryptocurrency and its underlying technology would drive the types of future innovation Gene and I discussed in his last days.

I’m excited to share you on my next project which is a movie about Cryptocurrency and the story of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Crypto is a mystery thriller about Satoshi and the origin of Cryptocurrency in a fictionalized story that incorporates true events and real people such as Hal Finney, Nick Szabo, Wei Dai, and the cypherpunks.

Our story will take the audience on a journey from the beginnings of Bitcoin and ending in a utopian future where Cryptos (like Monero and others) have replaced fiat as global currencies of choice.

P.S. If anyone feels this is of interest I can post some additional details about how exactly the sponsorship would work and what exactly the Monero community would get in return for helping make this movie a reality. (Exposure) Also, we have recently got Phil Zimmerman onboard to help review the script and plotline. We also have a dedicated set designer to ensure that we stick to as accurate a portrayal as possible in the Movie.

Hello,

Have you first consider accepting cryptos (at least BTC & XMR) on the atomicnetwork fundraise?
Then i'm afraid the community will need more details about the partnership you mention (amount considered, details on the exposure) to discuss your proposal.

How much are you asking for, exactly, and what sort of sponsorship do you have in mind? I feel like we don't have enough information.

I say nay.

Monero would be one the main manifestations and representations of the cypherpunk mentality in the crypto space today, and yet you want us to pay you to be a part of the movie?

Hi midipoet, thanks for your note. I agree Monero has consistently been a leader of the cypherpunk mentality and values. We are absolutely open to considering having Monero in the movie in some capacity without anything in return.

This pre-proposal, however, was meant to approach the community in a business/advertising capacity around the promotion of the movie itself with Monero. We thought Monero was a good fit, exactly because of the reasons you outlined.

I also realize how that request seems counter to the construct of what the cypherpunks stand for. We are simply trying to put a movie together that tells the story authentically in an fun and engaging way. Part of our approach is going to the Cryptocurrency communities for support of the production.

This type of film and the radical ideas within are philosophically unappealing to Hollywood and would most likely never get support by traditional studios in favor of more alarmist overblown plotlines. (Like the Kurt Russell movie focusing on Crypto and money laundering)

Anyway, thanks for your feedback and taking the time to consider.
