Hi guys, I’m completely new to mining and I have downloaded the Monero wallet for Mac and it is currently syncing the 1383673 blocks...it won’t allow me to mine stating “error starting mining” couldn’t start mining, is this because I have not synced all the blocks yet?

Correct. You can start mining when the wallet is fully synced.

It depends on your connection speed and hardware. Currently, the monero blockchain is approximately 38GB.
