Using Monero to help support public education.

So my friend and i were talking about cryptocurrency mining on our way to class, and thought it might be a good idea to help get some newer equipment for our class. We've been talking about it for a week now, but neither of us have enough money, singularly and combined, to get a machine that mine Monero and other cryptocurrency at a rate that is profitable. The budget is about $600-700 to get a 1070 and cheap hardware to run it, and use the money earned from there to build 1-2 more systems to have a large sustained profit for public education, and the expenses around it.

What a nice gesture and a good idea :-)

What is return on investment? And what is the time frame?
