Issues connecting to a remote node on the gui

I've been running the monero gui on a tails usb. Have previously run it smoothly before on my local network, it's always been connecting to a remote node without issue.
I've tried again today but it comes up with one of these two messges in the control panel, depending on which node I connect to:
2018-09-14 11:08:38.699 76fcfffff700 ERROR default src/wallet/api/utils.cpp:46 error: resolve: Host not found (authoritative)
2018-09-14 10:37:16.493 76fcfeffd700 ERROR net.http contrib/epee/include/net/http_client.h:456 Unexpected recv fail
Anyone have a clue what's going on here?
